VBA Flower Auction Aalsmeer

VBA Aalsmeer, one of the largest flower auctions in the world.
Project
Initiated and completed in 2005. Modular stand design for international trade fairs for the plant and flower grower’s industry.
Outcome
The Aalsmeer flower auction covers a surface area of 1 million square metres, an area where on average, 20 million flowers and 2 million plants are traded daily and exported to almost every country in the world.
The stand concept is suitable for any size floor plan ranging from 30 to 120 square metres and has three main features:
- a giant meandering robe, hovering over the floor
like a tenuous mass facilitating any type of
exhibition underneath it;
- an uncluttered floor space sporting low glass
tables, illuminated from below;
- one building volume, containing pantry, lounge and
meeting room.
As a result of the unequivocal design, the stand as a whole is a powerful communication icon for a world leader in flower trade. The modular stand design was developed in cooperation with Unit Design in Frankfurt.
