Design of covers and new typographic lay out for Shell Annual Reports 2010-2012.
Outcome
Throughout the years, annual reports for Shell have shown variations on the logo or the natural shell form. Studio Dumbar designed the first in the series of reports for the next three years.
The covers show the flow of energy in red and yellow streams, based on the two pillars of Shell: Upstream (extracting energy resources from the earth) and Downstream (handling and distributing energy products). The abstract transparent forms stop that flow for a moment, assessing the year that has passed.
The reports contain different sorts of editorial content; some read more like a magazine, others contain complex reading and table material. The typographical basis has been designed to handle all these characteristics within one design, reinforcing the visual connection of the series.
