Client

Museum ‘Het Valkhof’.

Project

Initiated in 1997, completed in 1999. Interior design including interior architecture, furniture, exhibition design and signage.

Outcome

Museum ‘Het Valkhof ‘ is located in the Dutch city of Nijmegen, a former Roman settlement. The museum houses a unique archaeological collection and is situated on a landmark-site in the city centre.

Ben van Berkel’s austere architecture and sober standardised furniture designs are counterbalanced against the more outspoken graphic forms and robust object-specific pedestals and display cases designed in cooperation with WAAC’s Design and Consultancy. A deliberate use of colour warms the museum’s otherwise cool interior.
