European Design Festival
Project
Studio Dumbar was invited to develop the design of the 2010 Festival, which was initiated in 2007 in Athens, and since then has traveled to Zurich, Stockholm and now Rotterdam.
The Festivals main objectives are:
– to celebrate European design with all its regional distinctive elements as well as its common grounds;
– to facilitate European designers to meet, benchmark, be inspired and build networks;
– to promote and raise standards for communication design throughout Europe;
– to properly honour and award people who invest their passion in design.
Outcome
Studio Dumbar approached the design of this year’s Festival by raising questions to shift perspectives.
‘Design has become increasingly important in our current society, for business, government, and cultural life. It is not only about aesthetics, for the nice experience of beauty. It has a vital role, simply for society to communicate and function better.’
If that is the case: do we, in the current, global economic crisis, raise the right questions and address the current issues?
Integrating the visual language of protest movements and abstractions of the European Flags, design and debate, Studio Dumbar created a range of items such as banners, posters, t-shirts, flags, leaders and set design that invite you to join the discussion.
