Dumbar Branding - The joint venture in China
04-04-2006
Through its Shanghai-based joint venture, Studio Dumbar is involved with prestigious brand design and identity projects in China.
Two examples:
Studio Dumbar developed a completely new corporate / product brand (including both name development and design) for BBK – a leading company in mass-market consumer electronics.
The latest project is the design of a new visual identity for SAIC – the second largest car manufacturer in China and partner in Shanghai General Motors and Shanghai Volkswagen. SAIC is an ambitious company that has set its sights on a high position in the Fortune 500.
Other projects involved the design of a large (1100m2) show stand for Shanghai General Motors and editorial design for TNT China.
Studio Dumbar has had ties with China since 1994. This has resulted in an alliance with Wang Xu – one of the ‘godfathers’ of design in China.
In 1999, examples of Studio Dumbar’s work were exhibited in Shanghai and Beijing.
The joint venture has been set up with Junction, an advertising agency with offices in Shanghai, Beijing and Shenzhen. The joint venture was launched in March 2006.
Dumbar Branding employs nine people. The management comprises:
- Bela Marady (creative director)

Bela Marady is a former senior designer at Studio Dumbar and a true European (born in Austria, brought up in Germany, worked and lived in the Netherlands, England and Spain).
